Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Gather Your Tools & Materials

  • 1 x 10cm CabriTex™ Soft Top Repair Patch
  • 1 x 5ml Syringe of CabriBond™
  • 1 x Application Spatula
  • 1 x Isopropyl Alcohol Prep Wipe
  • 1 x Length of Black 5cm Masking Tape (approx. 1-1.2 meters)
  • 1 x pair of vinyl gloves

Step 2: Prepare the Repair Area

  • Cleanliness is Crucial: The success of your convertible roof repair depends on a perfectly clean surface.
  • Thorough Pre-Clean: Remove all dirt, dust, grease, wax, and debris from the roof area around the tear.
  • Initial Wash/Wipe: Perform a general wash or wipe-down first to eliminate obvious contaminants.
  • Pristine & Dry: Ensure the area is visibly spotless and completely dry before continuing. CabriBond™ requires an immaculate foundation for a secure bond in any convertible roof repair kit application.

Step 3: Final Surface Prep with Alcohol Wipe

  • Cleanliness is Crucial: The success of your repair depends on a perfectly clean surface.
  • Thorough Pre-Clean: Remove all dirt, grease, wax, this is critical for proper adhesion of any convertible roof repair patch..
  • Initial Wash/Wipe: Perform a general wash or wipe-down first to eliminate obvious contaminants.
  • Pristine & Dry: Ensure the area is visibly spotless and completely dry before continuing.

Step 4: Apply CabriBond™ to Your Patch

  • Work Area: Apply glue on a table or cardboard, not on the roof.
  • Dry Fit: Check patch alignment on the roof, then move to workspace.
  • Apply Glue (4ml): Coat back of patch evenly with the provided syringe.
  • O-Ring Edge: Glue must reach the very edge for a permanent seal.
  • Save Adhesive: Re-cap syringe. Save 1ml for final edge touch-ups later.

Step 5: Secure & Bond Your Soft Top Repair Patch

  • Align & Press: Place wet patch over tear and press down lightly.
  • Thumb Pressure: Use heavy thumb pressure to “root” glue into the weave.
  • Border Bond: Target the entire perimeter to embed it into the roof.
  • Imperative: High-pressure thumb work on the border is essential for adhesion.
  • Quick Tip: The canvas usually absorbs all glue. If any tiny amount seeps, roll it away once tacky (See troubleshooting & video).

Step 6: Apply Tape for Patch Curing & Adhesion

Secure with Provided Masking Tape: Use the provided 5cm wide masking tape around and over the patch to ensure optimal pressure and prevent lifting during curing.

  • Create Tension: Apply a horizontal strip across the patch, extending beyond its edges. Secure one end, then pull taut before adhering the other.
  • Repeat with a vertical strip, forming a cross (+) over the patch.
  • Add two diagonal strips, forming an ‘X’. For each, secure one end, pull taut, and then adhere.
  • The combined tape pattern should resemble a star (*) shape over the patch.

Full Edge Coverage: This method ensures every edge of the patch is pressed firmly against the roof, guaranteeing a secure bond during the cure.

Step 7: Cure & Inspect Your Convertible Roof Repair

  • Initial Cure (12 Hours): Allow patch to cure undisturbed overnight (approx. 12 hours) before removing tape.
  • Remove Tape: Peel masking tape back carefully to avoid leaving adhesive residue on the roof.
  • Inspect Edges: Check for tiny lifts. These are rare if heavy pressure was applied in Step 5.
  • The Fix: Dab a tiny drop of saved glue under any lift and press firmly. (See troubleshooting video).
  • 72-HOUR FULL CURE: DO NOT TOUCH, tamper with, or pick at the patch for a full 72 hours.
  • RESTRICTION: Do not operate the roof, wash the car, or drive at high speeds until the 72-hour cure is complete.

Step 2: Troubleshooting & Expert Tips

Key Points to Remember:

  • Timing is Everything: Managing excess glue requires catching it at the exact “tacky” stage shown in the video.
  • User Precision: A flawless finish is the result of careful preparation and following the pressure requirements in Step 5.
  • Chemical Weld: If an edge lift occurs due to light coverage, the “Touch-Up” process creates a solid chemical bond to the original layer.
